Last month's issue was about what a cat's tail is actually telling you, and why the shelter down the road can't find homes for its older cats.

Horeyyah Feed is for people who live with animals and take that seriously. Dogs, cats, rabbits, the odd bird or lizard. You don't need to know the science. You just have to care about getting it right, and be willing to read something once a month.

Each issue picks a few things and sits with them. One month it's enrichment you can make from a cardboard box and some kibble. Another it's the quiet signs that mean a checkup, or what adopting an adult animal from a shelter is really like. The writing is plain. If something can be said in fewer words, it is.

Some of it is heavy. Horeyyah Feed doesn't skip the end-of-life stuff, because that's part of loving an animal, and most places won't talk about it plainly. When that's the subject, it's handled with care and without drama.

Here's what it won't do. It won't tell you which food to buy or push any brand. It won't stand in for your vet. And it won't fill your inbox. One letter a month, then nothing until the next one.
